Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation (1993). Born in Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow secondary art school (1954), Moscow State Art Institute. V. I. Surikov (1960), studied in the poster workshop with M. M. Cheremnykh, N. A. Ponomarev. Performed film posters for the publishing house “Reklamfilm” (1959-1970). Since 1961, he worked in the field of socio-political posters in the publishing houses Fine Art, Soviet Artist, Plakat and others. Since 1962 – collaborated with the workshop “Agitplakat” of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Worked in the Visual Agitation Workshop of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR (1968–1990); made posters for the Moskontsert publishing house. Since 1978 – taught at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov; professor since 1994. Author of many political and social posters; addressed various topics: space, armed forces, science and production, education of schoolchildren and youth. Some works were created in collaboration with fellow students at the institute (Karakashev, Levshunova, Ostrovsky). One of those who introduced a new aesthetics, a new plastic idea and beauty into the political poster. This was not in the posters of that time, as a rule. The poster artists of the older generation are being replaced by young artists: V. S. Karakashev, L. Ya. Levshunova, M. V. Lukyanov, V. I. Ostrovsky – the “Cheremnyhovites” of the last wave, who breathed new aesthetic thinking into the poster world. Participated in regional, republican, all-Union, international poster exhibitions, exhibitions of Soviet posters abroad; repeatedly became their laureate, was awarded honorary diplomas and prizes.
