Artist – Helena Kitayeva Helena Kitayeva was born in Ivanovo. Graduated from the Byelorussian State Institute of Fine Arts and theatre in 1986. Constantly particupates in prestigious exhibitions in her homeland and abroad. Works in the field of the poster, black-and-white art and book illustration. Her most notable works are illustrations to her own book “Suprematic ABC” brought out by the “Belarus” Publishers (Minsk), posters dedicated to the jubilees and exhibitions of the works by artists Lisitsky, Malevich, Tatlin, Rodchenko, advertising drawings for the English National Opera and for Origen Art (London). The images created by her – both humans and machines – a aroused an emotion difficult to define. It is a sort of nostaligia for the “silver age”, for aestheticism spared by the cold and keeping the warmth of human hands and soul. Distinct from many modern creations which monotonously visualize metaphors and slogans and turn into dull rows, Kitayeva’s works are energetic and produce the impression of exclusiveness. The queer hypnotism of her images is one of the true symptoms of art. Kitayeva’s clear-cut leanings towards traditions of Russian avant-garde are not at all accidental: constructivism with her is not a style but method, her disposition to plasticity she has logically adopted. She has an intense understanding of the artist nature of form and it stems from the seemingly lost traditions of our life and culture and is a proof of the fact that the notions of “successor” and “precursor” in art often merge and overlap.
