1936 Original Cappiello – Miroir Du Monde

In his youth, Cappiello drew caricatures and sketches, which proved he had a natural talent and an ambition that would eventually lead him to Paris in pursuit of his dream. He was so ambitious that he even approached Giacomo Puccini, the composer to ask if he could sketch him.

The headline, “Cruise ACROSS the GREAT LAKES,” is rendered in a combination of elegant script and strong sans-serif fonts. This wording promotes the cruise as both a standalone vacation and a scenic part of a larger Canadian tour, appealing to a wide range of travelers seeking leisure and adventure.

Original 1936 Art Deco Red Poster For Latitude 43 Hotel St Tropez 28 1/2″ X 21″

On offer, we have an original poster for the 1936 seasonal opening of Latitude 43, a luxury hotel in St. Tropez. This was printed by H. Chachoin, Paris. The thick paper poster measures 28 1/2″ X 21″. Anticipating a busy season, this poster was printed in 2 colors; here, you have the red version. Unfortunately 1936 was its last season. The artist remains unknown. About the hotel: Latitude 43 was designed by the avant-garde architect Georges-Henri Pingusson. The large 110-room hotel, inaugurated on July 14, 1932, was intended to welcome very wealthy vacationers. It had a large restaurant, sports facilities, Olympic pool, bar, dancing and casino. The hotel lasted four seasons before being declared bankrupt. It was occupied by both the Italian and German armies, then served as HQ for the US military in August 1944. It was a rest home for a short period of time, then the rooms were sold as apartments. The building was registered on the inventory of historical monuments in 1992. Today this building is a private property with no visitors permitted. This poster is in excellent condition. The lithograph is bright, clean and clear with no signs of long storage. It has been handled and has a few light wrinkles. The back is clean. Please view my photographs for more description. My good friend is moving to a smaller home and parting with many of his treasures. He purchased this decades ago and assures me it is an original. You may enjoy viewing his other poster, the blue version (last picture). I have it on a separate listing at this time. I will be happy to answer any questions, send more photographs and, of course, combine your shipping.
